1. Here in Finland we hear English daily. Here are people from another countries. In our school we have once in a while exchange students and we speak English to each other. In our town we have a libary where is many English language books if someone wants to read them but personally we don't visit there much. Everytime we watch English movies or series we hear the language and read subtitles. And that's how we mostly learn English. We think that wherever we go, the English language always follows us!

2. Also we see and hear English in social media every day. Mostly every TikTok is in English and wherever we go in social media, everything is in English. In radio there are a lots of music which is also in English language.

3. Yes, we think that English affects in Finnish language more and more. Everyday we learn some new words from English that we use in our country. For example word "brother" has come to our language in the form of "bro". Mostly teenagers use that and everyone of them hears that word every singe day in their life.

Picture time!

First blog! (killer language)

Hello! We are Mellu & Illu from Finland.

Our native language is Finnish and we also speak Swedish and English a little bit.

We talk English almost everyday when we are at school in English class. Also when we are in social media we need to communicate with each other for example TikTok, Snapchat or Instagram.

We use English slang words when we talk in our friend group for example "legit" "lowkey" "highkey" "bro" "kinda"...

We both have been abroad in Estonia. Finnish and Estonia are lowkey same language or at least it sound a little bit same. When we were there we could spoke Finnish and they kinda understood us.

We both think mostly in Finnish but there has been times when we like accidentally think in English.

Illu has sometimes had dreams where everyone spoke in English. One time i saw a dream where a woman was on a stage and singing and speaking in English and she asked people on the benches ask her a questions. At the end she tried to unalive herself like turning her neck around.

We don't wish that English were our native language because we think that Finnish is very beautiful and unique language. English is really good languge and good to know but at the end of the day Finnish is on top!

We watch Netflix and Youtube where we see and hear a lot of English.

Illu has a funny inside joke with her family wich is that they just su

ddenly start to talk English and talks that for the rest of the day.

We experience that Finnish is big part of our identity. It's very important to us because we have talked it out whole life.

Mellu thinks that in future English will have big role in her life because she wants to be a doctor and some of those study materials are in English. Illu thinks that English will have a big role in her future too because she wants to work with kids. Now days here in Finland are many kids that has other language that Finnish.

Sometimes we only use our native language because we don't know or remember words that we need in other languages.

We talk finnish when communicate to our friend or family members or at official meetings.

We think that students shouldn't study Spanish or Chinese rather than English because English is global language in the whole word.

Thanks for reading our first blog! Bye bye!
